Lost engagement ring reunited with owner
On a Friday in August, Mrs. Du Toit went shopping at the Woodhill Shopping Centre in Pretoria. She took her ring off in the car and placing it on her lap while putting hand cream on. She then went shopping. Only when she got home again did she notice that her ring was not on her finger and she realized that it must have fallen off her lap when she got out of the car.
She and her friend immediately went back to look for her ring but they could not find it. She was devastated, and told her husband about it that evening on their way to a rugby match at Loftus. They were both so disappointed that they turned around and went home – giving the rugby a miss.
In the meantime Mr. & Mrs. Pieterse also went to Woodhill and while getting out of their car, Mrs. Pieterse noticed something sparkling on the tar. She immediately realized that it was a diamond ring and told her husband that someone must have lost it while getting in or out of a car.
On arriving home Mrs. Pieterse found that there was a number and name engraved on the inside but could not make out what it was. Three days later they got hold of a magnifying glass, and then they discovered the Browns Hallmark and the unique ID number! Mr. Pieterse called client services and with the unique ID number we were able to trace the owners of the ring.
Last Saturday the couples met at Browns in Menlyn and returned the lost ring to its owner. Mrs. Du Toit was ecstatic when she received her ring and was noticeably emotional when thanking Mr. & Mrs. Pieterse for their honesty and all their trouble in returning the ring to them.
In recognition of their kindness we planted a fruit tree on behalf of Mr. & Mrs. Pieterse.
Mr. & Mrs. Du Toit were smiling and could not stop looking at the precious ring on her finger. They believed it was gone forever but thanks to an upstanding citizen and the Browns unique identity number, they were reunited.
