Browns The Diamond Store Making a Difference update

November 2009

Last festive season, on behalf of our clients and staff, we made a donation to the Carte Blanche Making a Difference Campaign. We requested that the R1 million we donated was given to the Parent & Child Counseling Centre in Hartebeespoort. When we first met this small group of dedicated woman there was a single trained social worker providing support to a number of child headed households as well as counseling to children in the greater community. The center’s greatest wish was to establish a crèche to care for the local children some of whom were orphans while others were left unattended and alone while their parents went out to work.

This November we had the opportunity to revisit the Parent & Child Counseling Centre, to meet the children and see how our contribution of R1 million was helping to change lives. The change was evident in the smiling faces around us. The crèche has become a reality and they centre has employed 3 new teachers. Not only do the children now have access to toys, games and books but they also receive a healthy meal each day. The centre has also been able to employ another social worker and is now able to offer better support to more children in the area.

We were also told about a promising young man who was writing his matric exams at the local high school and were delighted to hear that our contribution would also be helping to put him through university next year where he was off to study engineering.

Despite the cold weather it was a heartwarming day. Our gratitude and respect goes out to the incredible ladies who continue to give of their time and love to make this project a success. It is an honour and a privilege for us to be involved.
